While it can, at times, be difficult to find the positives in the tumultuous year that has just passed, one aspect has shone fairly clearly: the growth of online concerts and performances. Fifi Rong is one such artist who has managed to make her way astutely through these trials with the creation of the Yi Jing 意境 Live Performance Series which showcases the Chinese British songstress’ talents as she releases a series of singles in preparation for her upcoming album. You can watch the trailer for the series here.
First, listeners were greeted with the single and music video for ‘Another Me’ which paid tribute to the well-known classical piece of art, the Birth of Venus. Not too long afterwards, we received the single and sun-soaked video for ‘Only Man’. Most recently, we’ve been gifted with the single, ‘Dream On’ which we’ve got a hunch will be accompanied by an equally captivating video. Starting to see a trend here? We are, at least. All of the singles are taken from her upcoming album, There Is A Funeral In My Heart For Every Man I Loved. For now, if you find yourself needing a bit more Fifi Rong magic, we thoroughly recommend signing to attend her unparalleled live performances.
Fifi Rong provides insight on the creation of her music: “The purity of love to me, usually happens in a dream and expires in the morning sun, unless I capture these dreams into my songs. My lyrics are subtle and subliminal but ‘Dream On’ has the most direct and emotionally brutal words. My kind of ‘direct’, though, still multi-layered metaphors. Like every song on this album, I have just finished a Chinese version of this song too. Being able to glide through musical elements and deliveries, between the two languages and cultures really allow me to fully express what I want to say with my work.”
