REVIEW: Singer-songwriter Hanne Mjøen shares fierce electro-pop album

Electro-pop on fire would best describe singer-songwriter Hanne Mjøen’s new EP Emotional Fever. The EP, released via Physical Presents features the heartwrenching track ‘Hurt Like Heaven’, which is accompanied by a stunning music video. Let’s just say if you enjoyed her honest but feisty lyrics in songs like ‘Hell With You’, then you will be swooning over this entire EP in a matter of minutes.

Hanne Mjøen does not waste her energy on empty lyrics, she shares heartfelt emotions and experiences in her writing and vocal outputs. Each track on this EP explores an aspect of relationships, but yet each track’s atmosphere carries a different weight. The more subdued song ‘Too Tired (Don’t Feel A Thing)’ made our hearts drown in its relatable lyrics which touch on not taking the time to prioritize your mental health and suffocating through doing so.

The EP’s title track ‘Emotional Fever’ follows a more high energy Hanne Mjøen that is chasing her dreams in the pursuit of happier days. The final track ‘Someone’ and the noteworthy track ‘Hell With You’ both carry similar sentiments of being in the abyss one can find themselves trapped in when looking for refuge in another that is not emotionally stable nor available.  From each of these track descriptions alone, it would be safe to say that this album and artist is emotionally intuned and raw with an undeniably invigorating edge.
