Listen, we’re always going to get excited when a truly talented artist appears on our radar. You can only imagine our reaction when we heard about ‘Clara Mae’ and her latest hit single ‘Missing You Sucks’, accompanied by a haunting music video. The single follows a series of releases in 2021 for Clara Mae, including the mysterious ‘Någon Annan’ (which we’re told roughly translates into “Other”) as well as ‘Not Sad Anymore’ whose music video received over 1.6 million plays on Youtube in the months following its release. The second last release came with a ‘Crash’ and a bang as the singer caught The Circle Sessions’ attention with a live video.
While we’re desperately hoping that all of these singles are leading up to another album from the young songstress, we’re not foolish enough to miss the majestic beauty of ‘Missing You Sucks’ when it’s in front of us. While the single itself is about a breakup, the video is beautifully complex as it battles the aftermath in a compassionate and yet truly unique way. Bird noises, recurring themes of isolation, and numerous small details melded together, it’s clear that Clara Mae and the Cirqle Film production company make a winning combination.
“My latest single is about trying to get out of the grief and hopelessness a person feels after a breakup. You try everything to get over it but wherever you go or whatever you do, you’re hit with reminders of the person and end with that awful missing feeling. In the end, you want nothing more than to feel good again but it can take time, and missing someone like that can really suck.”
