While the music industry can be brutal, it can also provide a place of positive reinforcement and ways to acknowledge issues. Women have been pushing for body positivity more recently in the industry, take Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, Lizzo’s ‘This Skin’, Florence & The Machine’s ‘Hunger’ and even Mary Lambert’s ‘Secrets’ as prime examples. However, it’s a topic that needs to be discussed and so we’re always excited when we find more artists releasing new music around it. Take German-based singer MARIA Die RUHE for instance, with her latest single, ‘Skin’ – released last week via Reduced To The Root.
MARIA Die RUHE gives us a breakdown of the concept behind the single: “I disliked my body for the longest period of my life for different reasons. I was always ashamed of getting undressed first in school sports, later with lovers. A lot of women share this phenomenon. This is insane. Today, I know that I am perfect as I am and beautiful. Do you like this vehicle you were born into? Your body? Your body is a magical machine with incredible functions and huge abilities to learn, develop, change. It is always there for you. You are your body and your body becomes the thoughts you are giving to it. With ‘SKIN’, I am rounding up my life and travelling the transformation of making peace with my body and loving and nurturing it as it is. My body. The only one I have in this life.”
‘Skin’ follows the release of ‘Art Is The Only Real Translation Of Living For Me’ which picks up the beat. Another shout out should go to ‘AFTERHOUR’ and its bass-laden music video designed to break up any mundane day. Outside of music, MARIA Die RUHE’s artistic style marks her as a creative to watch. We’re expecting great and interesting things from this singer – you should too.
