Who is truly pleased by a people pleaser? If we’re being honest with ourselves, the answer is no one. People pleasing hurts the person doing the pleasing but also brings out the worst in the pleased, as the former adopts the role of servant and the latter the whip of the master.

In the song, she lists various moments when her efforts went unreciprocated and, in a twist, celebrates the nuances of give-and-take while painting a parabole on the mentality of those who only take without end. 

On the matter of becoming growing more assertive, Marianna Winter shares: “We all know some people pleasers in our lives. If you don’t then maybe you ARE one… if so, don’t worry. I got you. This year I sought to add a new word to my vocabulary. The word being: no. I found myself saying yes to everything, but I always ended up leaving my attention and well-being unevenly distributed – in both professional and personal relationships. My new goal gave birth to this song, which I hope will empower other people pleasers to give a little less fucks too.”
