London based Dutch native Renée Brandsen recently shared her groovy new single ‘Call You Mine’ on the 6th October 2023. Growing up in the Netherlands, she expressed her spirit by writing poems and small songs, and engaging in plays and musicals at school. Writing songs for her final grade school musical, she discovered the joys of performing her original songs for the public, and she began to hone her craft.
Blending elements of garage, jazz and dance, neatly wrapped up in a pop-focused wrapper, ‘Call You Mine’ emits a classic and timeless sound with a soothing yet melancholic motif. With its jazzy piano chords, intricate house rhythm, and lush pads, Renée shines in her vocal delivery, as she lyrically explores the push and pull between her lover and her inner huntress, symbolizing the struggle to find love while striving to become an independent young woman in a fast paced-world.
Renée Brandsen had this to say on the song: “Ever since I moved to London, I’ve just not felt the need to be in a relationship with someone. I’ve just been working on myself and my music, which working full-time outside of music, I find is enough of a job as-is. I just wanted to see a song that spoke on that part of womanhood, instead of just hearing about being in love.”
