On August 1, 2025, Karmacoda, the San Francisco pair of producer Brett Crockett (aka B.) and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Eric Matsuno, dropped ‘Practically Impossible to Please’ on Sola Musa Music. For two decades, they’ve bounced between electronica, chill, R&B, and rock, grabbing attention from NOTION, Magnetic Mag, and Hotpress, plus spins on NPR and RTÉ 2XM. Their awards shelf boasts a Platinum Hermes Creative Award for the ‘Lo-Fi Girl’ video, a Gold Unglued Music Video nod, and three Silver Davey Awards. Now, they’re joined by Megan Slanker, a Bay Area singer with a gritty, soulful voice, taking their sound in a new direction.
‘Practically Impossible to Please’ taps into the best of 90s and 2000s Soul Pop, mixed with sleek R&B grooves and Megan Slanker’s powerful vocals. Co-created by Slanker and Crockett, the track’s warm production and resounding delivery echo Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan, full of passion without the filler. It showcases Slanker’s skills, sharpened over the years with her band The Wreckage.
Brett Crockett shared, “I aimed for a modern R&B and Soul song with an electronica edge and a nod to the past. We called up our friend Megan Slankard, a vocalist and musician who dug the sound. She wrote the lyrics, sang lead, and brought an amazing emotional depth. It’s about someone in a tough relationship admitting she’s ‘practically impossible to please.’”
