The alt-pop artist I’MMORTAL, who is active in both New York and London, released her most recent single, ‘SWAMP MONSTER’, on 2 October 2026 through Immortality. Since making her debut in August 2023 with the futuristic tech-house song ‘Versace Spaceship’, she has built up a strong and compelling reputation, earning more than half a million Spotify streams and receiving acclaim from established voices such as Rolling Stone UK, Electronic Groove and others. The hypnotic track ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ prompted remixes from biskuwi and Droid Bishop, while ‘Uncanny Valley’ was reimagined as a darksynth odyssey by Das Mörtal and featured on NPR Music. Having grown up in California, I’MMORTAL developed her artistic style over the course of many years through studying orchestral violin, which helped to establish her complex arrangements, before her involvement in high-school musicals brought out her vocal talent. Although there are still traces of her classical background, she eventually became attracted to the powerful appeal of EDM’s pulsing bass and digital percussion. Using synesthesia as a guide, she creates music with the precision of a painter and produces videos that combine campy images, cycles of death and rebirth, and the contrast between the organic and the artificial, all viewed through the perspective of an AAPI woman. Her sources of inspiration include Sevdaliza and Britney Spears as well as Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Björk.
‘SWAMP MONSTER’ is anchored by a dense electronic bassline, with driving drum patterns, jagged synths, and shimmering digital layers. I’MMORTAL’s vocals remain close and understated, creating a cool, enigmatic atmosphere that suits the late October release. Produced by I’MMORTAL and mixed by Mikaelin Bluespruce, known for his work with Solange, Mariah Carey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Blood Orange, the track appeals to listeners of SOPHIE, Arca, and umru, defined by its raw, textured low end and experimental pop sensibility.
I’MMORTAL shared: “I made ‘SWAMP MONSTER’ after watching John Waters’ movie ‘Pink Flamingos’. I love how leaning into filth was the main character Divine’s armor against traditional society’s constructs. ‘SWAMP MONSTER’ is a playful exploration of the unconventional. It’s about diving into the murky, taboo corners of your identity and reclaiming them as a source of strength.”
