kenzie Explores Change and Uncertainty on New EP: Notes From the in Between

kenzie steps into a new chapter with the release of her five-track EP notes from the in between, out now alongside a full set of accompanying visuals.

At its core, notes from the in between sits in a space of transition, capturing the emotional push and pull of growing up, letting go, and figuring things out in real time. Written during a period of personal change, the EP leans into themes of loss, identity, attraction, and uncertainty, without trying to neatly resolve them. Instead, kenzie allows each track to exist as it is: honest, sometimes uncomfortable, and deeply relatable. “notes from the in between is a collection of songs written from a place of transition. It lives in the space between who I was and who I’m becoming, before clarity, before answers, before certainty,” says kenzie.

At the center of the release is focus track ‘sophie’, joined by previously shared singles ‘mutual destruction’ and ‘where do we go’, as well as two additional cuts that balance lighter, playful moments with more introspective tones. The result is a fluid listening experience that mirrors the unpredictability of life, where clarity doesn’t always come easy, and questions often outnumber answers. The single ‘sophie’, written by kenzie alongside Jay Mooncie and Sophie Alexandra Tweed Simmons, and produced by J Moon, leans into a sense of emotional conflict and reflection, unpacking the blurred lines between attachment, self-awareness, and uncertainty. Built on a moody, atmospheric pop production, it allows space for kenzie’s vocal delivery to carry the weight of the lyrics, moving between restraint and vulnerability.

Lyrically, ‘sophie’ feels like a moment of confrontation with feeling. It is less about resolution and more about sitting inside the tension of not fully knowing where things stand. It’s one of the clearest examples of the EP’s central theme: existing in emotional grey areas without forcing closure. Still evolving as both an artist and storyteller, kenzie uses this EP as a space to fully own her voice. It’s a project rooted in vulnerability, offering listeners an unfiltered glimpse into the in-between stages we all navigate, proving that sometimes, not having it all figured out is exactly the point.
