Released on September 22nd, 2023, Lilise’s debut single ‘Sweeter Than Poison’ has landed in the world, its music video garnering more than 1000 views and counting on Youtube in just five days. Based in the UK, Lilise has recorded her debut self-titled EP while still studying for her A-Levels and working towards studying clinical psychology at university and shows no signs of slowing down.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift, Sara Kays and Maisie Peters, Lilise manages to infuse her own sounds to create unique tracks. Lilise writes her music on piano and guitar, but as a grade-8 vocal student it is her voice – likened to that of Billie Ellish – that is her most shining asset.
In the music video – an introduction of her performing presence – she charms you in her opulent ball gown, Doc Martens and fishnet stockings. ‘Sweeter Than Poison’ is an acoustic pop song with hints of folk and Americana, with delicate electric and acoustic guitar and a subtle but driving rhythm section carrying Lilise’s angelic vocals. The song’s themes touch on body image, misogyny, love and revenge. Lilise bares her soul in her lyrics and has a precocious talent for telling stories through her songs.
