A-Zal’s latest single ‘Lonely Town’, is more than just a song; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the personal experiences, and the city that became his muse – New York. Back in 2018 the daring singer-songwriter decided to risk it all and migrate to the USA. He settled in the vibrant heart of Manhattan, but whilst busking for tips on the subway, he discovered a profound sense of loneliness. In response, he used his deep sense of connection and love of music to reach beyond the dauntingly impersonal streets. After gaining success composing music for hit TV shows on CBS Network, Marvel Studios and Netflix, A-Zal released his debut single ‘Movie Script’, in August 2023. Within its fourth week, the track peaked at #51, standing out as one of the only three independent musicians competing alongside major label artists. Now, his second single is out, with a gorgeous black and white music video, shot in Times Square and Central Park.
As the artist meanders through Times Square and Central Park, guitar in hand, he emphatically paints the city as a supportive companion, always beside him as he faces the trials and tribulations of his journey. The self-directed video captures A-Zal’s intimate feelings for everything around him, as he strums the song’s essence into the souls of passersby. Whilst complex, A-Zal’s style never dips low, instead maintaining a consistently positive spirit. Increasingly contagious and ever uplifting. The video was recently nominated at the Montreal Independent Film Festival 2023 in the Best Music Video category
Speaking on the track, A-Zal had this to say: “Lonely Town’ is a song I wrote during my early struggle days in New York when I lived off tips I received for my performances at the subway train stations. I moved to New York, a city with a unique charm which pulls people like a magnet from all over the world. However, I felt there was also a lonely side to the city which had a totally different story. I started here with nothing in my hands and felt lonely even while I walked the buzzing streets filled with glamor. Eventually, it was New York City that held my hands, the wind below my wings, and my home. This song is my way of giving a tribute to New York.”
