Loren Heat’s ‘2009’ Delivers Pure Pop Magic for a New Generation

Loren Heat by Ellen Dixon

Middlesbrough’s own Loren Heat is taking the UK pop scene by storm with their dazzling new single 2009, dropping today through Interval Records (EMI North/Generator). From humble beginnings with ukulele covers on TikTok to commanding stages, Loren has become a force to be reckoned with. Their debut EP Scarlet Haze struck a chord with its raw, heartfelt exploration of love and vulnerability, earning raves from Clash, BBC Introducing, Notion, Earmilk, and NARC. Fresh off electrifying performances at Stockton Calling 2024, Twisterella 2024, and Waves 2024, Loren is set to headline a 300-capacity show at The Georgian Theatre in October 2025 and will light up The Great Escape 2025 and Stockton Calling 2025, signaling a breakout year ahead.

2009’ pays homage to the dance-pop zenith of the late 2000s, evoking the eccentric energy of early Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Robyn while infusing a razor-sharp modern edge. Helmed by producer Chad Rodgers, the track erupts with glossy synths and a driving beat, building to a chorus that’s pure, heart-pounding euphoria. Loren’s vocals soar with intensity and nuance, weaving a story of fleeting, soul-deep connection. Tailor-made for sweaty dancefloors and starry-eyed drives, this is pop crafted to stick in your head and heart.

The single captures the escapist joy of 2009, a year when pop anthems offered refuge from a chaotic world and what we now refer to as, ‘recession-pop’. Loren Heat bottles that magic, blending nostalgia with a bold, modern pulse that feels like a call to revive the fading club scene. The song’s polished production and emotional depth make it more than just a banger—it’s a celebration of intimacy that transcends the physical, wrapped in a soundscape that’s equal parts euphoric and grounded. With 2009, Loren delivers pop at its most addictive, ready to soundtrack our nights out.

“It’s a feel good love song, it’s a song about this pure form of intimacy, intimacy crafted by love rather than lust. not only the lyrics but the sound paint this picture of this almost ethereal gentle form of wanting someone, whether it’s recurring or one night, it feels deeper than just sex,” Loren Heat shares. They add, 2009 was a good year for music, there were so many bad things going on like there is now and people were clubbing to escape, they were listening to music to free themselves mentally, even just for a bit. The pop music that was released that year centered around going out and meeting people and getting someone’s number etc, and so I thought given all that, it fits just right. The club scene is dying, can we bring it back, like 2009?” With 2009 and a string of high-energy live shows, Loren is on a mission to spark a pop renaissance, one shimmering beat at a time.
